A special honor for SC Freiburg II : The people of Breisgau received the Pitch of the Year award from the German Football Association (DFB) . Means: The playing surface in the Dreisamstadion was the best of the past season in the 3rd division .
The SCF has thus succeeded FC Ingolstadt , which received the 2021 award. Jürgen Faltbacher, match director of the 3rd division, presented the trophy to greenkeeper Florian Haeber and Andreas Steiert, manager of the Freiburg soccer school and youth academy, during Freiburg’s home game against FC Viktoria Köln on Saturday.
Steiert says: “We are very happy about the award and the associated recognition of the outstanding work of our entire greenkeeper team. The Dreisamstadion is not only the home of the U23s, but also the home of the SC Freiburg women. We are all the more happy about it to be able to offer our two teams these optimal conditions.”
Three-pillar concept to improve playing areas
The condition and condition of the playing fields are among the basic requirements for attractive football and say a lot about the quality of a league. To promote this development, the DFB introduced a three-pillar concept for maintaining and further improving the pitches in addition to the Pitch of the Year award.
The first pillar is aimed directly at clubs. You must prepare and submit an action plan for weather-related events. A model action plan, which is made available to the clubs, serves as the basis and support for this. The second pillar includes meetings and training courses for the greenkeepers from the German professional leagues in cooperation with the DFL. The third division teams also take part here.
The third pillar, the so-called “greenkeeping tool”, is decisive for the Pitch of the Year award . After each game, the pitches are rated by the team managers of the clubs and the referees in a point system from one to ten.
