Newcastle United continued their strong start to the season with an impressive 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, with Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa getting on the scoresheet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham had their moments, particularly in the first half, but Newcastle showed greater composure after the break and made their opportunities count.

Elanga opened the scoring with a confident finish after Amar Dedic won a crucial header to create the opportunity. The winger turned sharply before seeing his effort take a slight touch off the post and find the back of the net.

Newcastle then wrapped up the victory through Wissa, who produced an inventive finish to make it 2-0 and leave Tottenham with no way back into the contest.

    Tottenham Hotspur Player Ratings

    Antonin Kinsky – 5/10
Had little to do before the break but was helpless for both Newcastle goals.

    Archie Gray – 5/10
Worked hard throughout, although questions remain over whether right-back is his strongest position.

Micky van de Ven – 6/10
Made his first start of the season and produced an important sliding challenge to stop Wissa inside the box. His early booking was unnecessary.

Jan Paul van Hecke – 6/10
Composed on the ball and helped Tottenham play through Newcastle’s pressure. Nearly scored with a header.

    Andy Robertson – 5/10
Provided plenty of attacking intent in the first half but struggled to deal with the situation that led to Elanga’s opener.

    Rodrigo Bentancur – 5/10
Put in plenty of unseen defensive work and recovered possession several times.

    Sandro Tonali – 4/10
A difficult afternoon against his former club. He looked short of full fitness and was involved in the build-up to both Newcastle goals.

    Mateus Fernandes – 5/10
Made his first Premier League start for the club and tried to make things happen, particularly from set pieces.

    Pedro Porro – 5/10
Played in a more advanced role and had a couple of chances, including a volley that flew narrowly over.

    Omar Marmoush – 6/10
The debutant showed flashes of quality. His clever reverse pass created a good opening for Robertson, while another effort struck the side netting.

    Mathys Tel – 4/10
Forced a good save from Hornicek but was inconsistent and gave possession away too often.

    Tottenham Substitutes

    Kudus – 5/10
Made his long-awaited return after a serious quad injury.

    Moore – 5/10
Could not make a significant impact after coming on.

    Udogie – 5/10
Added energy but could not change the game’s direction.

    Dominic Solanke – 5/10
Introduced late as Tottenham searched for a way back.

    Newcastle United Player Ratings

    Lukas Hornicek – 7/10
One of Newcastle’s standout performers. Made several important saves, particularly during Tottenham’s strong first-half spell.

    Amar Dedic – 7/10
Another impressive showing from the summer signing. His excellent knock-down header created the opening for Elanga.

    Malick Thiaw – 6/10
Enjoyed a physical battle with Marmoush and generally handled the Tottenham attack well.

    Sven Botman – 6/10
Looks increasingly comfortable after a difficult pre-season. His growing understanding with the rest of the defence was noticeable.

    Lewis Hall – 7/10
Produced an outstanding last-ditch block to deny Porro and was dependable defensively.

    Nico Gonzalez – 8/10
The standout performer. He showed excellent composure on his debut and produced a superb cross-field pass in the build-up to Elanga’s goal.

    Lewis Miley – 7/10
Quietly effective in midfield and rarely wasted possession.

    Anthony Elanga – 7/10
Another confident performance from the winger. His clever turn and composed finish gave Newcastle the breakthrough, making it two goals in two games.

    Joe Willock – 5/10
Could not reproduce the impact he made from the bench against Liverpool. Still produced one memorable moment with a strong challenge on Tonali.

    Harvey Barnes – 5/10
Unable to replicate his midweek Carabao Cup performance. His final ball was also lacking on a promising counter-attack.

    Yoane Wissa – 7/10
Worked tirelessly as Newcastle’s central striker and frequently dropped deep to support the team. His inventive overhead-kick finish put the result beyond doubt.

    Newcastle Substitutes

    Sean Steur – 7/10
Delivered a dangerous corner that eventually led to Wissa’s goal.

    Nick Woltemade – 7/10
Made an immediate contribution, providing the header that helped create Newcastle’s second goal.

    Newcastle Take the Points

The victory highlighted Newcastle’s growing confidence under Matthias Jaissle. While Tottenham enjoyed spells of pressure, Newcastle were more clinical when their opportunities arrived.

Elanga’s confidence continues to grow, while new arrivals such as Dedic and Gonzalez are already making a strong impression.

For Tottenham, there were some encouraging individual performances, but their inability to convert pressure into goals ultimately proved costly.

Newcastle leave north London with three points and plenty of positives, while Tottenham will need to find a response quickly.Capture 2
